My intent is to create community and connection through art and music. A blend of cultivating a space where people can sink into the moment and creating surprise and delight by turning ordinary objects into sculptures are the two main elements for helping people access a different way of experiencing art more intimately.
The installations have been lovingly described with sentiments such as:
“I can't even thank you enough for that setup — I had so much healing just looking at them. The trees seemed alive with energy flowing through them.”, and;
“I remember spending hours there in reverence and reflection. I genuinely think that was therapeutic for me in a way.”, and;
“This was my favorite space of all! I went out there multiple times to feel grounded, and become attuned to myself again. Truly one of the best pieces of art I've ever been able to experience.”.
My choice of materials is simple and utilitarian in a way that people find really refreshing (paper towels, toilet paper, plants, things from the kitchen counter, and so on). Combine with high tech lighting and the right soundtrack, and out comes a transformative experience.
I’m grateful and humbled that what I put out into the world has touched people so deeply.
A final note on the installations is that being mindful that how people experience art is important motivates creating spaces with hammocks, cushions, and ways for folks to be in a place alone or with others, to slide into reverie and connection and to be comfortable and stay a while to let whatever wants to unfold unfold.
